Julie Bateman

Julie Bateman entered into the world of show business at an early age, coming from a theatrical family. Her vast experience and unique versatility shows us what a professional is all about. She has a wonderful mezzo soprano voice and is able to tackle even the most demanding of songs. Her huge vocal range enables her to sing anything that is put in front of her, from musical theatre to pounding rock! ...And sometimes at very short notice too!!

“One afternoon on the way to a show, Tony gave me a minidisc of a song and asked me to listen to it and write the lyrics out for him. Thinking nothing of it, I set out at writing them and when I gave them to him he said “keep the lyrics Jules, you’re singing it tonight…!” – Boy did I get learning fast!!”

Julie joined The Tony Carnagie Show in 1999, stepping in at the last minute to understudy fellow performer Samantha Bailey. She soon became a regular with the show, and is now the show’s principle lead understudy, able to fill in for other company members in their varied roles when ill or absent. She also plays keyboards and, away from the show, is a solo performer in her own right with a regular circuit of performances with varied clients.

“I love the challenge of everything being so versatile and I love my voice being put to the test. It’s great to have such a varied set list too, as one night I might be singing a Whitney Houston song and Sarah Brightman the next!”

When at home, another string to Julie’s bow is being an expert interior designer and this is evident when walking around her IMMACULATE house and landscaped gardens, all done by her own hand!

“My house is my real haven and after being on the road touring for days, I love to come home and sit with my dog in my garden with a glass of bubbly!!”.
